Mountain biking

Arran Outdoor Education Centre runs half day and full day mountain biking sessions for young people of 10 years old and upwards.

What’s involved?

The sessions are tailored for all abilities and fitness levels.

Sessions take place around Arran’s many and expanding trails and routes. These include:

  • forestry tracks and paths
  • single track trails

Our bike trailer gives us the freedom to explore. We have a comprehensive and high spec fleet of bikes to suit participants’ needs.

You will be shown at the start of every introductory session how to check if your bike is:

  • in good working order
  • safe to take out on the trails

The instructor will then assess the group’s ability level and select an appropriate route to suit this.

What will I learn?

During mountain biking sessions, you get a chance to:

  • hone your balancing and coordination skills
  • develop key mountain biking skills, such as effective braking and mastering the ready position

You won’t be forced to ride anything you don’t feel comfortable with.

Mountain biking can be used to develop skills like navigation and team work. It’s an effective and enjoyable way of exploring our beautiful island, with the added bonus of finishing your ride with mud splattered smiling faces.
